Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have a burning desire to grasp the essence of things. I am not satisfied with the superficial but must always pursue a train of thought to a satisfactory ending. When it comes to Thy Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, however, I must confess that I am sometimes left confounded.
Please help me to understand the essence of the Mass. Please help me to realize more and more fully the value of Thy Sacrifice. Please teach me how it is that I am to participate in this Sacrifice. Please help me to be most pleasing to Thee. Please teach me how it is that Thou dost desire to apply Thy merits to my soul.
For now, I shall take comfort in the fact that Thou dost wholly comprehend the essence of my very being. When I give myself to Thee in Holy Communion, I surrender to Thee even the very deepest and darkest recesses of my heart. I hide nothing from Thee and reserve nothing for myself. I belong entirely to Thee – I am Thy property and Thy possession. Do Thou encompass me, O Jesus, and permeate every fiber of my innermost being.
