O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I am sometimes unsure of how to make my thanksgiving after receiving Thee in Holy Communion. I have often heard that I should simply employ the four ends of prayer – adoration, reparation, thanksgiving, and supplication – but still my thanksgivings seem inadequate. Thou hast given me a Gift of incomprehensible measure, and I desire to make some worthy offering to Thee in return. But what can I offer Thee? All I have to my name is sin, and even if I did have some virtue or great works to offer to Thee, what would those be in comparison with Thy infinite majesty?
Whatever I do have, O my good Jesus, I wholeheartedly offer to Thee. I offer and consecrate to Thee my intellect, my will, all of the affections of my heart, and all of my bodily members. I also unite to and offer to Thee the prayers of those praying this same Mass and receiving this same Lord with me. I offer to Thee the adoration of all the angels who are so perfectly adoring the Sacred Host. I offer to Thee the prayers of all of Thy saints in heaven and all of the poor souls in purgatory. I offer to Thee the Immaculate Heart of Thy most Blessed Mother and mine. I firmly believe that I can offer all of these gifts to Thee through the communion of saints, as Holy Mother Church has taught me. But most of all I offer to Thee Thy own Sacred Heart. I do not exactly understand how this is possible, but I know that Thou hast given Thyself into my possession. I take this most beloved Possession, then, and I offer it to the most Blessed Trinity. May Father, Son, and Holy Ghost look upon this offering of my poor heart and see only the Sacred Heart, which is the object of its own self-complacency.
