The Loss of the Child Jesus

O Mary most sorrowful, I set out with the intention to comfort thee in thy sorrows, but what comfort can I offer to thee when thou hast lost thy Son? If thou has lost Jesus, thou hast lost everything. I can offer thee no replacement, no comfort, no consolation.

O Mary! Perhaps I can at least grieve together with thee. It is my sins which have caused thee to suffer such inconsolable pain. I apologize for having offended thee and thy Son, and I humbly ask of thee to obtain for me the grace to stop hurting thy Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart by my sins.

I also thank thee, O Mary, for the wonderful example which thou hast set for sinners like me. When we lose our Jesus through sin, we can imitate thee – who lost Jesus through no fault of thy own – by tirelessly seeking Him out. Please help us to imitate thy example of perseverance!

O Mother, if thou canst take any comfort from this sinner, please know that thou didst not lose Jesus in thy heart. He still reigns there in all of His glory like the King that He is. Thy heart is the masterpiece of His creation, and He takes all of His delight in dwelling therein. He will never leave thy heart because thou couldst never offend Him by the slightest sin, O Immaculate Virgin! Please pray to Jesus for me, and please help me to someday love thy Immaculate Heart in heaven for all of eternity.
