O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I am a sinner who has contracted many stains on my soul. I am not worthy to enter heaven without first undergoing a great purification, but the thought of doing all the penance necessary to expiate my many faults terrifies me. Please deal mercifully with me, O Jesus, and treat me as a tender and compassionate father would treat his little child. Since I am so scared of doing penance in this life, and since I am even more scared of the purifying fire that awaits me in the next life, grant that I may be purified by another fire – the burning furnace of charity which is Thy very Sacred Heart. O Heart of Jesus, burning with love for me, set my heart on fire with love for Thee!
