One of my favorite prayers from the Raccolta is #721, an invocation to be prayed in the time of trial: “I deserve to suffer these things, O Lord, for I have sinned!”
One recurring thought I have had of late is that Our Lord does not deserve to suffer these things because He has not sinned. I have often been repeating that prayer to Him as a means of reparation to His Sacred Heart. He does not deserve to suffer the coldness, indifference, and even contempt with which men treat Him. He does not deserve to suffer, and yet He does suffer for love of me. I do deserve to suffer, and yet I always seem to shrink from it.
I resolve to offer my pitiful attempts at suffering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as a way to truly compassionate Him. I wish to comfort and console His suffering Heart by at least trying to suffer with It. All for Thee, most Sacred Heart of Jesus!
Thank you Tom.
