Perfect Union

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I give Thee thanks for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I firmly believe that this Sacrifice is the same which was offered upon Calvary. Two-thousand years ago Thou didst offer Thyself to the Father in reparation for our sins, but this very day Thou dost renew that same offering. I firmly believe that Thy Sacrifice is infinite in value since Thou art infinitely pleasing to the Father, but why, then, do I not gain infinite merit when I offer an infinitely meritorious Sacrifice? How is anything refused me when I unite my prayers with those of the infinitely pleasing Son of God?

The only answer must be that I am not fully united with my Lord in His sufferings. There is opposition in me; resistance. I do not embrace the cross as did my Savior. I rather shirk from the cross and, like Simon of old, I am reluctant to carry it. My weak human nature cries out against what it perceives as a heavy burden. My will is not united to the will of God. Sometimes it is not even resigned to the will of God, much less in perfect union with it. I am not yet a saint. From these evils deliver me, O Jesus!

O Mary, my mother, I take thee as my advocate in this cause. Thou art the perfect example of perfect union with the will of God. Thou dost stand at the foot of the Cross not opposed to the will of God, not merely resigned to the will of God, but perfectly positively willing whatever God wills. Thou art a perfect saint, O Queen of all Saints, and I humbly beg of Thee to look up at the Cross of Thy Divine Son and intercede for me poor miserable sinner. My mother, my hope!
