O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have always desired to do something great for Thee. Convert the nations, defeat the antichrist, save the world – something of that magnitude. But then I pray Thy stations of the cross, and I come to Veronica. The great Veronica, who has been known the world over for two thousand years, who has so many children named after her, who has inspired so many saints, who is reverenced by name by the Church in one of her most powerful and popular devotions, who has provided ample fruit for thousands of hours of mediation by the saints. Surely this Veronica must have performed some heroic feat that changed the course of the world? No, she simply offered her veil to wipe the bloody Face of a condemned Man. But with what love she must have performed this seemingly insignificant act! O Jesus, please help me to love as Veronica loved.
