As someone who buys almost all of my books second-hand, I have made an interesting observation. Many of my books have a plethora of notes and markings done in the first few chapters, but once I begin arriving at the middle of the book, all of the markings suddenly disappear. I find this rather amusing, but at the same time, troublesome. Why do so many of us start with good intentions yet fail to follow through?
