If you vote for Donald Trump, you are sending the message that you would rather have him as president than Hillary Clinton.
If you vote for Hillary Clinton, you are sending the message that you would rather have her as president than Donald Trump.
If you vote for a third party candidate, you are sending the message that you don’t particularly care who is president. You would rather have your fellow countrymen decide.
If you don’t vote at all, you are sending the message that you don’t particularly care who is president. You would rather have your fellow countrymen decide.
The practical outcome from voting third party and not voting at all is exactly the same. Whether we like it or not, either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States. There is no other realistic outcome.
A vote for a third party candidate is not actually a vote for a third party candidate because there is no real chance that that candidate will win. A vote for a third party candidate is only a feel-good placebo intended to ease the conscience of those unwilling to make the hard decision.
Our next president will either be Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Take your pick.
