Scripture Alone?

N.B. The following piece is another contribution from our very wise and dear friend, Mike. Below he makes a heartfelt appeal to all adherents of the “Sola Scriptura” idea, and does a fantastic job refuting their faulty position. May God bless Mike in this great work, and may God have mercy on those poor souls who are lost in error. –TN.

To all my non-Catholic family members and friends…

Please take the time to read this as it is a matter of everlasting life or death.

The Holy Bible is not where the faith comes from, but rather it was produced by the faith – The Catholic Faith. The Catholic Church and her authorities gathered all the writings and documents of the Apostles and determined what was truly inspired by the Holy Spirit, then they compiled it under one cover and called it The Holy Bible. This work of the Church was finalized during the reign of Pope Sixtus III, approximately 400 years after the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is why the only Catholic saints you recognize are the ones who wrote the books in the bible. Yes, the Catholics who wrote the Holy Scriptures were canonized saints by the Catholic Church, and the Catholics that copied their writings for us, by hand, year after year, century after century wrote a “St.” before their names!

Some of you have told me “You have to center your beliefs on the scriptures, not a church to be considered a Christian.” If that is true, there were no Christians for 400 years after our Lord’s death and before the Catholic Church made the holy bible. Do you really believe that?

After the finalization of the bible, only bishops and priests had copies of it, mostly because it is the Church’s duty to teach us the true meaning of the scriptures, not private interpretation, but also because the printing press wouldn’t be invented for another thousand or more years! It is not coincidence that as soon as the Scriptures got into the hands of lay people, interpretations other than the true Church teaching began circulating. Furthermore, some bad-willed people altered the text. Martin Luther removed seven books from the Old Testament. King James not only altered his version, but was himself a very scandalous character. Openly homosexual, and publicly admitted he was the lover of the Earl of Buckingham!

Some of you tell me, “The Holy Spirit teaches and inspires me when I read the Scriptures, I don’t need some priest to tell me what they mean.” Well if that is true why are there so many different “Christian” religions, each with different Scripture interpretations? There are more than 33,800 of them! Are there 33,800 Holy Spirits? Are there 33,800 Jesus Christs? No, there is but ONE!

The Holy Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ (the one and only)! He made St. Peter the first pope. He founded a Church, not the Scriptures. The Church founded the Scriptures. The Saints of the Church wrote them. Listen to them: (Mathew 16:18-19) “And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.”

Jesus Christ established ONE church, not 33,800!

In Eph. 4:4-5 St. Paul says “One body and one Spirit; as you are called in one hope of your calling. One Lord, ONE FAITH, one baptism.”

You need to belong to the One, True, Holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church to be saved. It doesn’t matter that you believe Jesus died for your sins, even Satan knows that! It doesn’t matter that you call Jesus “Lord.” (Mathew 7:21-23) “Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.”

Some of you have said to me “I don’t call what I practice a religion, it’s more like a relationship I have with Jesus Christ.” Let me ask you this; Are you sure that He even knows you?

All the apostles and writers of the scriptures were Catholic. St. John the Apostle was a Catholic. He was the only one of the original twelve to die of natural causes at the age of 94. That was around the year 100. St. John loved and was obedient to all the leaders of the Catholic Church. The 1st leader was our Lord Jesus Christ, then St. Peter, his first vicar. After Peter died in 67, Linus became pope. He died in 79 which is when Anacletus was elected. Anacletus died in 90. Pope Clement I was pope from 90-99. Sometime during the reign of pope Evaristus, from 99-107, St. John the apostle died. He served our Lord and five of His vicars faithfully before he died.

Please know that I’m posting this out of pure love and Christian charity for your souls, not to be mean or insulting. If I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t say anything! I’d just let you continue in your errors. St. Paul says “And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed: Yet do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.” (2nd Thessalonians 3:15)

  1. Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who having joy set before him,

endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the

    throne of God. Heb 12:2

The Holy Bible was produced by God. Gathering the writings and compiling them

into a book does not make the Catholics the producer. The Christians who gathered

the writings and determined which books stay, did so under the discernment of the

    Holy Ghost.

I am quite certain the Christian saints who wrote the Scriptures are not the only

saints Protestants recognize. I am sure the Protestants would call the Prophets

saint also, as well as all the Old Testament saints. A Protestant would be a fool if he

does not acknowledge the Blessed Mother a saint, or Elizabeth, Mary Magdalene ..

etc. Most people are not that simple that they need an “St.” stamp of approval

before they will recognize a saint. The Old Testament Prophets are saints yet they

do not have an “St” before their name. The real truth is, these writers of Scripture

were saints as soon as they became believers of the Messiah. They are not saints

because of a Catholic stamp of approval. Anyone who is a believer of God and lives

according to God’s Word is a saint.

A person tells you ‘ you have to center your beliefs on the scriptures, not a church to

    be considered a Christian.’
Do you really believe Scripture did not exist for 400 years ? You imply that the

Word of God would be dead if it were not for the Catholic Church. Christ tells us

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” We have the

Bible because God gave us the Bible.

You say it is the Church’s duty to teach us the true meaning of the Scriptures, I

agree. When was the last time you heard the priest give a sermon on Scripture? You

say ‘it is no coincidence that as soon as the Scriptures got into the hands of lay

people, interpretations other than the true Church teaching began circulating’. Is it

possible that the Church veered off course and began teaching things that were not

biblical? Is it possible when the Bible began to be read by the laity they noticed

that some of the teachings did not mesh with the Bible and began to question the

priests? Regardless of Martin Luther’s sins he had a valid point about the

indulgences. I surmise, if the Church had corrected that, it would have prevented

the reformation. Did King James actually do any of the translation ? Or did he

justgive his approval of the translation to be done ? His homosexuality did not play

a part in the translation of the bible, therefore it is irrelevant.

The Holy Spirit teaches and inspires me when I read the Scriptures, you should try it

    yourself sometime.

The Church established by Jesus Christ, THE ONE AND THE ONLY REDEEMER, THE

THE LIFE, (there is no other) was a CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

There were no Catholics back then. …So that at Antioch the disciples were first

named Christians. It is not …so that at Antioch the disciples were first named

The Scriptures are . the sacred writings of the Old and New Testaments.

You are under the misconception that faith means Catholic.
Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For, amen I say to you, if you have

FAITH as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from

hence hither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you. Can

    Catholics move mountains ?
The definition of faith is this:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

You say : “It doesn’t matter that you believe Jesus died for your sins ” What

impertinence, sheer lunacy. Do the Catholics now believe they can override the Word

of God ? (Rom. 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and

shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be

saved And now you quote Matthew? You take the verse that is at the end of the

Sermon on the Mount and try to apply it here .You are using that verse out of

context. Read the whole Sermon and then emphasis that verse.

Jesus Christ established the Christian Church, Christian men gathered the writings

    1. It’s rather tough to follow your rambling reply, but it appears you aren’t a fan of the Catholic Church. I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll keep you in my prayers because I’m not sure my words are capable of convincing you of much.

  2. That’s not surprising. I will be glad to go through it piecemeal with you. Start at the top? Jesus Christ is the producer of faith and not the Catholic Church. That really cannot be broken down any simpler. What about Jewish people being saints? I see how this could be a struggle for you to wrap your mind around but take my word for it; this is true and also true Protestants know this. Maybe you can go over this comment with your priest friend. He seems to be very intelligent and very patient. I think you will fare much better asking him to explain it to you . Hey maybe it can be a sequel to your poverty video.

  3. Wow, incredible weblog format! How lengthy have you ever been blogging for? you make blogging glance easy. The entire glance of your site is fantastic, as well as the content!
