In creating the human body, perhaps God intended to give man a subtle reminder. He made us each to have two eyes, two ears, two arms, and so on; but He only gave us one soul. A man can lose one of his eyes, ears, or arms and continue to live; but the loss of his one soul is eternal. Maybe God wanted to convey to us the truth that our bodies are of less importance than our souls. Pluck out thy eye, He told us, if it be an instrument of our damnation. Focus on saving thy one immortal soul, and God will take care of the rest.
